Q: Record that inspired you to form a band?
Noel: The Stone Roses' first album.
Liam: One of his.
Noel: You were in the band befor me, you daft c***!
Liam: Alright, alright. But it was still one of your songs that made us start the band.
I do wonder how Noel feels about this. And Ian for that matter. Noel was the one who really was shaped by his love of the Stone Roses, though obviously Liam followed closely in his footsteps. As always. But would Noel be willing to work with John again after all this?
I mean John surely doesn't know the meaning of this shot. Why would he know about some random picture of Liam and Noel from years back? I doubt Liam would have told him. It would have sounded too ridiculous, but - clearly this was on purpose.
I didn't notice the ring at first! But yes.
And while we are reading this image let's talk about how in the brothers one, both of them hide their eyes behind dark glasses.
Their mouths are both markedly soft and open; decidedly sensual. Noel's head is tipped back. Is it pleasure, erotic relaxation? It looks like it but we can't tell for sure because we can't see his eyes. His pose suggests disconnection from the viewer. The posture suggests he doesn't care about the viewer, but the glasses say it's a lie. Liam's pose is confrontational, his grip on Noel's shoulder is tight and possessive; his chin is lifted aggressively, but again, the glasses reveal that he's still hiding. Or perhaps keeping a secret?
In the more recent photo, Liam confronts the viewer directly. Both hands clasp Johns two hands to his body, protective and relaxed. His face is settled, one confident brow lifted. He encounters the viewer directly. He wants you to know that he sees you seeing him. John's head is tipped down, rather than back. His pose is less erotic than Noel's, but more explicitly subordinate. He accepts Liam's imprisonment of his hands (his hands! A guitarist!) and he meets the eye of viewer from beneath his brows as though asking a question. "Are you seeing this??"
